Academy Student's Help Children in Haiti
The Academy students of the Asheville Arts Center will be reviving their national award winning performance of ONCE ON THIS ISLAND JR. on February 6th at 7pm as a benefit for the earthquake relief in Haiti.

St. Matthias (1 Dundee Street, Asheville) has graciously offered us the use of their space and we're really excited about holding such an opportunity for such a good cause! These people are suffering and need all the help they can get.

Our very own Junior Company member, Sarah Plaut, was selected, out of the MANY children who auditioned, for one of the lead children in BOX CAR CHILDREN on ACT's Mainstage!

Performances run March 5-21. 7:30PM on Fridays, 2:30PM Saturdays and Sundays.

CATS and ARISTOCATS!!
Ever since our Academy and Junior Company 'nabbed' their awards at the Junior Theater Festival, we've been getting many calls from new students interested in our drama program.

That means that spaces in our upcoming productions of Cats and Aristocats have been filling up FAST! There are still some left, but you had better call right now. Heres the scoop on both shows. More Information


The Academy and Jr. Company Return Victorious from The Junior Theater Festival
The Asheville Arts Center took its Academy and Jr. Company students to learn, compete, and audition at the Junior Theater Festival, the largest festival in the world dedicated to kids musical theater, this past weekend in Atlanta and boy did they represent the AAC and WNC!

One of the awards won by the Asheville Arts Center was the highest honor and most prestigious award. For our programs, our students took home the Junior Theater Festival "Freddie G." spirit award. Another special treat was that the award was presented to us by Stephen Schwartz, the composer of many famous Broadway Musicals, including Wicked and Godspell!

Here at the Arts Center, you might have noticed that we perform a lot of plays. Seriously, it's a lot.

And we want you, our students, teachers, parents, and anyone else who happens to be in our audience, to LIKE the shows we perform.
That's where democracy comes in!

Submit the show that you'd most like to see or perform by visiting our blog (upper right hand corner). By Valentine's Day, the AAC staff will pore over your entries and narrow it down to a top five in different categories (The Academy, Jr. Company, community theatre, etc.).

We'll then give you the top five so you can vote for your favorite!

Winners in each category will receive season tickets, special mention in our programs, and another mystery prize we'll announce when we post the top five.

You are invited to our drop-in Wednesdays! Give us a call to let us know you're coming. The Creative Arts Preschool program offers hands-on learning so that children can discover the wonderful world around them. Research studies show that exposing children to the Performing Arts helps improve critical thinking and develop self-confidence. Children naturally respond to music, dance, art and drama. At the Asheville Arts Center, our curriculum incorporates all of this, while allowing each child to excel in other areas as well, such as math, science and language.

New South Location!
STARTING Monday November 30th: NEW LOCATION!
We are upgrading to a new, larger facility which will be a better home for all of our programs! The studios will be larger and there will be more space for rehearsals, for classes and for parents of Kindermusik students to roll across the floor!

The best part is that the move is JUST ACROSS THE STREET!
Located at 10 Miller Avenue, Long Shoals turns into Miller Ave when you cross Hendersonville Road. It is on the left hand side of the street across from the Skyland Fire Department.
If you were sitting at the traffic light (having come from I-26) at Long Shoals Rd. and Hendersonville Rd, you would take a left onto Hendersonville Rd to get to the CURRENT location at Summit Ave. Instead of turning left at that light, go STRAIGHT THROUGH the light and the NEW Arts Center- South will be on your left hand side, directly across from the Fire Station.
We have a BLUE AWNING, and parking right up against the building!

The NEW facility will open this Monday, November 30th and will bring endless growing potential for all areas of the arts and our students. We can't wait for you to join us next week in this great new space. Tell all your friends to come and check us out!
